The Status Conference towards establishing a European Sectoral Social Dialogue in Education was held by ETUCE in Brussels on 4 and 5 June 2007. It welcomed 120 participants from 29 countries. The education sector was broadly represented with 23 bipartite delegations gathering employers' representatives and teachers' unions. ETUCE and CEEP will move forward in the process and continue to explore the possibillities of joint activities towards the establishment of this dedicated European entity for Social Dialogue in Education.
The representative from the European Commission (DG Employment and Social Affairs), Mr Jackie Morin, confirmed the full support of the Commission to the initiative. The Danish representative of employers, Ms Nanna Abildstrøm, invited her peers to join the process and to start building a European representative organ for the employers in Education. A comparable experience in the sector of Hospitals was presented by Ms Valeria Ronzitti.
In the afternoon of 4 June, the Social Partners of the Education sector in the European Union met separately in order to set the basis of their future work ahead.
